Advanced Practice Provider — Neurology and Movement Disorders
Eileen Schedel has dedicated nearly three decades of her career to patient care as a nurse practitioner, including the last 17 years focused specifically on neurology and movement disorders. Her extensive clinical experience, calm presence, and long-standing commitment to patients and families make her an integral part of the RUSH neuromodulation and movement disorders team.
She completed her educational training through Loyola University and North Park University and recently earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of St. Francis, reflecting her continued dedication to growth, education, and excellence in patient care throughout her career.
Eileen is deeply passionate about helping patients and families better understand neurologic disease and treatment options so they can actively participate in their own care journey. She believes that education, communication, and trust are central to successful long-term treatment, particularly for patients navigating complex conditions such as Parkinson's disease, tremor disorders, dystonia, and advanced neuromodulation therapies. Patients and families frequently value her ability to explain difficult concepts in a reassuring, practical, and approachable way.
Within the movement disorders program, Eileen works closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, nurses, coordinators, and therapists to help guide patients through evaluation, treatment, recovery, and long-term follow-up care.
Outside of medicine, Eileen enjoys exercise, staying active, and spending time outdoors.
Shama Patel, DNP
Advanced Practice Provider — Neurosurgery
My name is Shama Patel, and I work within the Neurosurgical division of our interventional multidisciplinary team.
I completed nursing school at Saint Louis University and later earned my DNP from Rush University in Chicago. Before becoming a Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner, I worked for two years as a psychiatric RN and nine years as a neurosciences RN, experiences that shaped both my clinical skills and approach to patient care.
My greatest professional interest is Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS). It is remarkable to see how the indications for DBS have expanded over the years and how life-changing it can be for patients. DBS brings together my interests in neurology, neurosurgery, and neuropsychology in a way that I find incredibly rewarding. My connection to movement disorders is also deeply personal — my father-in-law was diagnosed with essential tremor, and witnessing the impact it has had on his life motivates me to provide empathetic, individualized care to every patient I care for.
What I enjoy most about my practice is our patients themselves. They are such kind-hearted and courageous individuals who have exhausted medications and are searching for a way to improve their quality of life. I also have a strong passion for education and mentorship — empowering patients to understand their disease process and treatment options allows them to confidently advocate for themselves.
Outside of work, my favorite part of each day is spending time with my family and watching my two-year-old daughter discover the world. I enjoy reading, exploring the outdoors, and traveling — especially Italy and India for their vibrant cultures, incredible food, and stunning scenery.
Yuliana Nalysnyk, MSN, APRN, FNP-C
Advanced Practice Provider — Movement Disorders and Neuromodulation
Yuliana Nalysnyk, MSN, APRN, FNP-C is a board-certified Family Nurse Practitioner specializing in movement disorders and advanced neuromodulation care at Rush University Medical Center. She earned both her Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing degrees from Loyola University Chicago and has developed extensive experience caring for patients with complex neurologic conditions throughout her nursing and advanced practice career.
Yuliana began her clinical career in inpatient neurorehabilitation at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab, where she cared for patients recovering from non-traumatic brain injuries and developed a strong foundation in neurologic and rehabilitative care. That experience continues to shape her thoughtful and patient-centered approach to treatment.
As part of the RUSH movement disorders and neuromodulation team, Yuliana supports patients throughout all stages of Deep Brain Stimulation care, including evaluation, perioperative preparation, recovery, follow-up management, and long-term treatment support. She values the highly collaborative nature of multidisciplinary movement disorders care and works closely with neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuropsychologists, nurses, coordinators, patients, and families.
A central part of her approach to care is patient education. Yuliana is passionate about helping patients and families better understand complex neurologic conditions and treatment options by translating medical information into clear, practical, and approachable guidance.
Outside of medicine, Yuliana enjoys traveling, exploring Chicago's food scene, discovering new comedians and comedy shows, and spending time with family and friends.
