Contact & Locations

Where your care happens

The program runs across five RUSH locations, and which one you come to depends on what is being done that day. Your coordinator confirms the address before every visit — but attending the wrong campus is the most common avoidable problem we see, so it is worth checking here too.

At a glance

Five locations, one team

Procedures happen at two of these. The other three exist so that evaluation and follow-up can happen closer to home. The same neurologists, surgeons and coordinators are behind all five, and your records move between them without you having to carry anything.

Chicago, Illinois

RUSH University Medical Center

The academic and surgical hub of the program. This is where deep brain stimulation surgery is performed, and where most multidisciplinary evaluations, neurosurgical consultations, programming visits and advanced imaging happen.

Finding the building

The campus sits in Chicago's Illinois Medical District, just west of downtown, and is hard to miss: the white Tower Building that rises over it is usually described as butterfly-shaped.

For DBS surgery you enter through the Tower Building entrance on Harrison Street, check in at the fourth-floor main lobby, and are guided from there to the seventh-floor neurosurgical suites. A family member stays with you through preparation and then waits on the same floor, receiving text updates during the procedure.

Navigating a large city hospital sounds worse than it is. Most patients say the experience turned out to be more organized than they expected once they arrived and were met by the team.

Parking and getting here

The main patient garage is directly across Harrison Street from the hospital, and there is a second garage under the Rubschlager Building. Valet parking is available at the Tower entrance, with discounted rates for qualifying patients with disabilities. RUSH publishes current garage rates and valet hours.

Both O'Hare and Midway serve the campus. Chicago traffic has a reputation for a reason, so allow considerably more time than a map application suggests, especially early in the morning. Many patients find a rideshare simpler than driving and parking; the "L" is reliable if you would rather use it.

Eating nearby

Taylor Street in Little Italy is a few blocks east and is the closest place for a real meal. Long-standing favorites include Conte di Savoia, an Italian deli whose sandwiches are something of an insider recommendation, along with Tuscany on Taylor, Pompei and Rosebud on Taylor.

A short ride east is the West Loop, once the meatpacking district and now one of the city's busiest dining neighborhoods. Inside the hospital there is a Panera on the fourth-floor main level and a Starbucks on campus.

Oak Brook, Illinois

RUSH Oak Brook

The center for MRI-guided focused ultrasound. Treatment and focused ultrasound evaluations happen here, along with outpatient movement disorders visits and follow-up care.

A smaller building, on purpose

Focused ultrasound is performed in the MRI suite on the main floor, a few steps from the lobby. Check-in, waiting areas, the MRI and recovery are all within sight of one another, which matters more than it sounds like it should when you have tremor or difficulty walking.

On treatment mornings the center is given over to focused ultrasound. Nursing, MRI staff, neurosurgery, neurology and support are all there for that day's patients and nothing else.

Parking and getting here

Parking is free and directly adjacent to the building — one of the reasons patients traveling from a distance often prefer this campus. Because Oak Brook is about 20 miles west of downtown and close to several expressways, patients arriving from O'Hare or Midway, or driving from Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa or downstate Illinois, can usually avoid the city entirely.

Staying and eating nearby

The two hotels focused ultrasound patients use most are The Drake Oak Brook, essentially across the street, and the Hilton Chicago/Oak Brook Hills Resort, a few minutes away with more grounds around it.

The Oakbrook Center shopping and dining district surrounds the facility. Patient and family favorites include Maggiano's Little Italy, Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse, Antico Posto, Perry's Steakhouse & Grille, Roka Akor and Wildfire — a range wide enough to suit however you are feeling before or after treatment.

Munster, Indiana

RUSH Munster

RUSH's outpatient center in Northwest Indiana, at 9200 Calumet Avenue. It exists so that patients in the region can be seen without the drive into Chicago.

Consultations and follow-up visits happen here. Procedures do not — deep brain stimulation is performed in Chicago and focused ultrasound at Oak Brook — so most patients treated through this program will make one or two trips to an Illinois campus around the procedure itself and see the team in Munster for everything else.

Parking is on site and free, and the building is a single outpatient center rather than a hospital campus, so there is little walking involved.

If you live in Northwest Indiana and are not sure whether to ask for Munster or come straight to Chicago, call the coordinators on (312) 563-2032. Which one is right depends on where you are in the process, and it is a two-minute conversation.

Aurora, Illinois

RUSH Copley — Aurora

RUSH Neurology, a department of RUSH Copley Medical Center, brings movement disorders care to the far western suburbs.

Evaluations and follow-up visits happen here for patients who would otherwise drive an hour or more each way. The clinic works directly with the downtown neuromodulation team, so a patient seen in Aurora is discussed by the same group that would see them in Chicago.

Parking on the RUSH Copley campus is free, and complimentary valet is available during business hours.

Glenview, Illinois

RUSH Glenview

The northern-suburbs clinic, off Lehigh and Lake avenues, with free surface parking at the door.

Patients already treated with DBS or focused ultrasound often move most of their follow-up here once the procedural phase is behind them — programming reviews, medication adjustments and the routine neurology visits that continue for years.

The clinic stays integrated with the downtown surgical and procedural teams, so nothing about the plan changes when the location does.

Maps

Each map opens in Google Maps for turn-by-turn directions. If you are driving to the Chicago campus, set the garage across Harrison Street as your destination rather than the hospital itself.
