Finding the building

The campus sits in Chicago's Illinois Medical District, just west of downtown, and is hard to miss: the white Tower Building that rises over it is usually described as butterfly-shaped.

For DBS surgery you enter through the Tower Building entrance on Harrison Street, check in at the fourth-floor main lobby, and are guided from there to the seventh-floor neurosurgical suites. A family member stays with you through preparation and then waits on the same floor, receiving text updates during the procedure.

Navigating a large city hospital sounds worse than it is. Most patients say the experience turned out to be more organized than they expected once they arrived and were met by the team.

Parking and getting here

The main patient garage is directly across Harrison Street from the hospital, and there is a second garage under the Rubschlager Building. Valet parking is available at the Tower entrance, with discounted rates for qualifying patients with disabilities. RUSH publishes current garage rates and valet hours.

Both O'Hare and Midway serve the campus. Chicago traffic has a reputation for a reason, so allow considerably more time than a map application suggests, especially early in the morning. Many patients find a rideshare simpler than driving and parking; the "L" is reliable if you would rather use it.

Eating nearby

Taylor Street in Little Italy is a few blocks east and is the closest place for a real meal. Long-standing favorites include Conte di Savoia, an Italian deli whose sandwiches are something of an insider recommendation, along with Tuscany on Taylor, Pompei and Rosebud on Taylor.

A short ride east is the West Loop, once the meatpacking district and now one of the city's busiest dining neighborhoods. Inside the hospital there is a Panera on the fourth-floor main level and a Starbucks on campus.
